Explore the Kuiper Belt (part 2)

July 9th, 2010

I’ve been redesigning the main interface to the space trader game I’ve been working on lately. Here’s a sneak peak:

Explore the Kuiper Belt

April 7th, 2010

The Kuiper Belt is an asteroid belt at the fringes of the Solar System. It begins at around 30AU, at the orbit of Neptune, and stretches out beyond 55 AU. At these distances the Sun is no larger than any other star. I thought it would be a great place to set a game.

I’ve decided to use Away3D to build my own version of a space-trader game; it’s clearly heavily-influenced by Elite and I’ve tried to recreate the mood and vibe of the original. In my opinion Elite is the best computer game ever written and I played it endlessly on my Commodore 64 in the ’80s. No game has ever come close.

As my own game progresses I’ll keep updating this link.

Vodafone G-Force

April 7th, 2010

I’ve just completed another project for my friends at Skive. The Vodafone G-Force project simulates the effect of the g-forces experienced by a Formula 1 driver during a race. The idea is to place the user into the driving seat and show how the forces stretch and warp their face in potentially amusing ways.

March 24th, 2010

I recently made a showreel video for the Away3D team, showcasing the fantastic work people have produced using their real-time 3D engine. The video was shown as part of Rob Bateman‘s recent presentation at LFPUG.

Playable demos

March 9th, 2010

I’ve just uploaded some playable demos of the various games and sites I’ve worked on. They are all found in the “demo (playable)” category; each post will have a “Play demo” or “View site” link and will launch the site or game in a new window. I’ve also added links to projects that are still live. Projects with screengrab videos are found in the “demo (video)” category. I’ll be adding more playable demos and videos soon….

  • Check the “Read the rest of this entry” or “more” sections to read the full details about each project and for the demo links.

Seat Ibiza Cherub

February 14th, 2010

I recently worked on a Flash game for Seat, via Mediacom, which would be played within a Facebook application. The idea of the game follows Seat’s campaign promoting their Cupra “Cherub”, where a rather mean-looking cherub, floating atop a Cupra, shoots love arrows at any passers-by who happen to look at the car. The object of the game is the same: you control the car, aim the cherub’s arrow-firing cannons and have to shoot as many pedestrians as possible before time runs out.

Fearless

January 14th, 2010

Fearless are a creative ideas company who hired me to build their new Flash website. I really like the design, especially the hints of Americana – which I love. This project afforded me the opportunity to code subtle ambient effects and background lighting changes, all of which go to create mood and atmosphere.

Bond in HD

January 14th, 2010

This Flash website promoted a season of James Bond films shown in HD; it was also linked to a competition to win some HD decoders. The competition takes the form of a quiz on Bond trivia where users make their choice by, of course, shooting their selected option.

Start Thinking Soldier Mission #4

January 14th, 2010

The final mission in the ‘Start Thinking Soldier’ campaign.

We open on the capture of an oil field by enemy insurgents. The mission’s objective is to regain control and restore power to the local population.

The mission begins with a crack team dropped by parachute under cover of darkness. Once assembled the team must cross enemy lines and assemble outside the insurgent stronghold. There, at the given signal, the team must mount the final assault.
